WhatsApp begins testing the ability to transfer ‘HD Quality’ photos on the most recent iOS and Android beta versions.
WhatsApp recently released a new beta update that allows users to transfer HD-quality photographs within the app. The feature has been tested as part of the newest iOS and Android beta versions of the Meta-owned messaging app. WhatsApp automatically sends a compressed version of any image sent, which might result in a loss of quality for any images delivered to receivers over the app. However, the messaging app may soon offer a feature that allows users to share a higher quality image rather than a compressed one.
Matt Navarra, a social media expert, was the first to notice the function and published a screenshot giving some specifics about the upcoming WhatsApp feature. The image displays a new HD button at the top that can be activated to transfer a high-quality photo. HD resolution images are clearer, but they require more data and storage space than normal quality photos.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo revealed more information about the upcoming functionality. It is now available on iOS beta 23.11.0.76 and Android beta 2.23.12.13. According to the feature tracker, even after selecting the HD quality option, WhatsApp will apply some slight compression. Furthermore, the default option is Standard, and users must choose the HD option each time they want to transfer a high-quality image. When you share a high-quality image, WhatsApp will add a tiny HD icon to the image thumbnail in the chat.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature does not allow users to upload high-quality photographs as WhatsApp Status. The app also does not permit sending HD videos. Users can only share a video without compression by sending it as a document, which also works for sending photographs without compression.
